2018 Guide for Your Upcoming Military Relocation

If you are a military family, an upcoming military relocation is bound to bring up some discomfort.  Let’s face it; everyone hates moving days. Moving can be a huge source of stress especially if you are moving with a whole family. You may be excited about life in a new place or a better home, but no one looks forward to all the tasks that have to be done during moving.

With so much to do, such as packing, sorting through your belongings, and lifting heavy boxes up and down stairs, moving can be challenging without proper preparation. It gets even worse if you are a military family and you are subjected to Permanent Change of Station every three years. When being forced to move so often, it is important to do everything possible to make your military move a breeze every time.

The following are a few tips to help you during a military relocation:

Tip #1

Only Move With What You Need

Military Relocation

Long before you have to move, you need to sort all your belongings in order to reduce the amount of stuff you need to move. A lot of people have a habit of hoarding where they never let go of stuff even though they never use it. Professional organizers advise that if you haven’t used something for more than two years, you probably don’t need it. You can get rid of what you don’t need through a yard sale, donating to friends, or to charity.

Tip #2

Don’t Hesitate to Ask For Help

Military Move

Being in the United States Military, we understand that there are high expectations to maintain your composed stature.  But moving is far from an easy task. During the days leading up to your relocation, there are plenty of tasks that need to be done.  Some of these tasks include packing, sorting stuff, and lifting heavy items in and around the house. As such, you need all the help you can get from friends, neighbors, and family members.

Tip #3

Pack in an Organized Manner

Packing is the stage of the whole moving process that you want to get right. If you pack properly, the whole move will be a piece of cake. First, you need to pack non-essential items such as books, clothes, décor, and accessories. Leave the items that you use frequently to be packed last. Label all your boxes to make it easier to find things when unpacking. You can also have an inventory to ensure you don’t forget anything.

Tip #4

Have a First Day Box

In most cases, you may not be able to unpack immediately after getting to the new place. As such, you need to have a box with just the essentials you know you will need immediately you get to the new home. The box can have things like prescription medicine, chargers for phones, laptops, and other devices, sheets, towels, pillows, bathroom supplies,  personal care items, a change of clothes, and anything else you know you’ll need.

Tip #5

Hire a Professional Moving Service
